Samsung N400 & A500 USB Driver Installation ***Important*** This document contains information on how to install the USB drivers for your USB cable. Please read the section regarding the Windows OS version you use prior usage of the USB cable. ***** Windows 98SE ***** To connect your mobile phone under Windows 98SE, please follow these steps to install the USB drivers. There will be 5 devices that will be detected during install: Generic USB Hub Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port Samsung USB Composite Device Samsung CDMA Modem Samsung USB Modem 1)Unzip the drivers to the folder of your choice and then connect the USB cable without the phone. (Note: The phone is left unconnected to avoid USB driver installation confusion). A message stating the device "Generic USB Hub" will come up and install automatically. 2)The "Add New Hardware Wizard" should now appear. Choose the "Search for the best driver for your device" option and click "Next". 3)Click on the "Select a location" checkbox and then the "Browse" button on the right. Browse to the folder "98_ME", located under the "Samsung H" folder which you have unzipped. The path should be something like (please substitute X with your drive letter): X:\Samsung H\98_ME Confirm the above path, click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 4)The wizard should state that the "Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port Bus" was found. Click on "Finish". If not found, please recheck your cable connection and repeat the steps above. 5)Now, turn on your mobile phone and connect it to the USB cable. 6)The "Add New Hardware Wizard" should appear and find "USB Composite Device" or "Samsung USB Composite Device". Click "Next" to continue. 7)Choose the "Search for the best driver for your device" option. Click on the "Browse" checkbox and then the "Browse" button on the right. Browse and find the folder "98_ME" under the "Samsung H". The path should be (please substitute X with your drive letter) X:\Samsung H\98_ME Confirm the above path, click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 8)The wizard should state that the "CDMA Virtual Com Port" was found. Click on "Next" to continue. Continue clicking on "Next" until the "Finish" button appears. 9)Please repeat steps 6 through 8 if there are any problems. 10)This completes the USB driver installation for your Samsung USB cable. ***** Windows Me ***** To connect your mobile phone under Windows Me, please follow these steps to install the USB drivers. There will be 4 devices that will be detected during install: Generic USB Hub Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port Samsung USB Composite Device Samsung CDMA Modem 1)Unzip the drivers to the folder of your choice and then connect the USB cable without the phone. (Note: The phone is left unconnected to avoid USB driver installation confusion). The "Generic USB Hub" device should be automatically detected and installed. If not, please check the cable connection or try another USB port. 2)The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear (USB Device found). Choose the "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)" option and click "Next". 3)Click on the "Specify a location" checkbox and then the "Browse" button on the right. Browse to the folder "98_ME", located under the "Samsung H" folder which you have unzipped. The path should be something like (please substitute X with your drive letter): X:\Samsung H\98_ME Confirm the above path, click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 4)Click the "Next" button to continue. Click the "Finish" button. The message should state that the "Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port" was installed. If there was a problem with the USB driver detection, unplug the cable and try steps 1-3 again using a different USB port. You can also choose to browse to the driver manually. Please refer to the Windows 98SE section (steps 2 to 4) above for more information on where the drivers are. 5)Now, turn on your mobile phone and connect it to the USB cable. 6)The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will start, detecting the "Samsung CDMA Technologies" device. Choose the "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)" option and click "Next". 7)Click on the "Specify a location" checkbox and then the "Browse" button on the right. Browse to the folder "98_ME", located under the "Samsung H" folder which you have unzipped. The path should be something like (please substitute X with your drive letter): X:\Samsung H\98_ME Confirm the above path, click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 8)The wizard will detect the "CDMA Virtual Com Port". Click the "Next" button to continue. 9)Click the "Finish" button to finish the USB driver install. 10)This completes the USB driver installation for your Samsung USB cable. ***** Windows 2000 ***** To connect your mobile phone under Windows 2000, please follow these steps to install the USB drivers. There will be 4 devices that will be detected during install: Generic USB Hub Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port Samsung USB Composite Device Samsung CDMA Modem 1)Unzip the drivers to the folder of your choice and then connect the USB cable without the phone. (Note: The phone is left unconnected to avoid USB driver installation confusion). The "Generic USB Hub" device should be automatically detected and installed. If not, please check the cable connection or try another USB port. 2)The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear (USB Device found). Click the "Next" button. 3)Choose the "Search for a suitable driver for my device" option and click "Next". 4)Click on the "Specify a location" checkbox and click "Next". 5)Click the "Browse" button and browse to the folder "2K_XP" which is found under the "Samsung H" folder you have unzipped. The path should be similar to (substitute X with your drive letter): path: X:\Samsung H\2K_XP (note: It is advised that the zip file not be unzipped to desktop.) Click "Next" to continue. 6)Click "Next" again. The wizard should report a message stating that "Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port" was found. Click the "Finish" button. 7)Now, turn on your mobile phone and connect it to the USB cable. 8)The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will detect the device "Samsung CDMA Technologies". (Note: The message may state that it has found "CDMA Virtual Com Port" instead. This is not an error.) 9)Click the "next" button and choose the "Search for a suitable driver for my device" option and click "Next". 10)Click the "Specify a location" checkbox and click "Next". 11)Click the "Browse" button and browse to the folder "2K_XP" which is found under the "Samsung H" folder you have unzipped. The path should be similar to (substitute X with your drive letter): path: X:\Samsung H\2K_XP (note: It is advised that the zip file not be unzipped to desktop.) Click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 12)Click the "Finish" button to continue USB driver installation. 13)This completes the USB driver installation for your Samsung USB cable. ***** Windows XP ***** To connect your mobile phone under Windows XP, please follow these steps to install the USB drivers. There will be 4 devices that will be detected during install: Generic USB Hub Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port Samsung USB Composite Device Samsung CDMA Modem 1)Unzip the drivers to the folder of your choice and then connect the USB cable without the phone. (Note: The phone is left unconnected to avoid USB driver installation confusion). The "Generic USB Hub" device should be automatically detected and installed. If not, please check the cable connection or try another USB port. 2)The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear (USB Device found). Choose the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" option and click "Next". Under "Search for the best driver in these locations." option, click the checkbox "Include this location in the search:". Then, click the "Browse" button and browse to the folder "2K_XP" found under the "Samsung H" folder that you have unzipped. The path should be similar to (substitute X with your driver letter): X:\Samsung H\2K_XP Click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 3)There will be a "Hardware Installation" dialog box warning that the drivers have not passed the Windows Logo testing. Although the drivers are not yet officially certified under Windows XP, they have been tested thouroughly and will work properly under Windows XP. Please click the "Continue Anyway" button to continue installing the USB drivers. 4)Once completed, the device "Susteen SV2-SMA10 USB-Serial Port" should be detected. Click the "Finish" button to continue. 5)Now, turn on your mobile phone and connect it to the USB cable. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will detect the device "Samsung CDMA Composite Device". 6)Choose the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" option and click "Next". Under "Search for the best driver in these locations." option, click the checkbox "Include this location in the search:". Then, click the "Browse" button and browse to the folder "2K_XP" found under the "Samsung H" folder that you have unzipped. The path should be similar to (substitute X with your driver letter): X:\Samsung H\2K_XP Click "OK" and then "Next" to continue. 7)The Windows Logo testing warning dialog box will appear again, so click the "Continue Anyway" button to continue with the installation. 7)The device "USB Virtual Serial Port" is now detected. Click the "Finish" button to continue. 8)This completes the USB driver installation for your Samsung USB cable. You may also wish to be reboot your system to ensure proper operation of your USB cable.
